How an exterior job runs
Most of our exteriors follow the same honest sequence: algae and fungicidal treatment, jet washing, protecting windows and doors, surface preparation and repairs, then two protective coats in your chosen colour. It's what we did on a bungalow at Mawgan for the first external of the year, and on a bay window surround in Redruth that came back looking new.
Coatings that suit the coast
On exposed homes we use masonry coatings with biocides and anti-fungal inhibitors. For one St Ives property we used Zinsser AllWeather, a pliolite-based masonry paint with a life of up to 15 years. Hydrophobic and self-cleaning coatings are available where sea spray and green growth are a constant battle.
Fascias, soffits and joinery
We paint fascias, soffits, gutters, doors and windows too, using oil-based finishes on external timber in matt, eggshell, satin or high gloss. Where wood has rotted, we work with trusted joiners so repairs happen before the paint goes on, not after.
Old walls need to breathe
Granite, cob and lime-rendered walls need breathable coatings. We use stone and masonry sealers suited to lime, and on one cottage applied Johnstone's Sol Silicate over bare lime render. See masonry and pebbledash for more.
Where we work
We cover all of Cornwall from Penzance, including Penzance, St Ives, Hayle, Helston, Falmouth, Redruth, Truro, Newquay, St Austell, St Just.
